Sanata Dharma University Initiates Phase 1 of Whole Person Education 2025 Program for Holistic Educator Development

Yogyakarta – Sanata Dharma University (USD), in collaboration with the United Board (UB), has initiated the Whole Person Education (WPE) 2025 program themed “On Being a Holistic Educator: Capacity Building for Academic Leaders.” This initiative is designed for lecturers from various higher education institutions across Indonesia. The program addresses the need for a structured and holistic career development system for educators. Focus Group Discussions (FGDs) with representatives from Weetebula Catholic University, Triatma Mulya University, and Artha Wacana Christian University revealed that many universities lack systematic career development programs, particularly in non-academic aspects such as integrating core university values and encouraging student character development.

WPE 2025 encompasses five dimensions of development: intellectual, emotional, social, spiritual/moral, and physical. The program aims to cultivate educators who are not only academically competent but also well-rounded individuals. A total of 27 lecturers from nine universities are participating, including Dhyana Pura University, Triatma Mulya University, STKIP Weetebula, Saint Augustine Hippo Catholic University, Soe Education Institute, Flores Bajawa College of Agriculture, Ledalero Institute of Philosophy and Creative Technology, Fatima Pare-Pare College of Health Sciences, and Halmahera University.

The program was conducted in three phases. In Phase 1 (from May 26 to June 20, 2025), participants engaged in online activities through a Learning Management System (LMS) and Zoom, focusing on topics such as the educator’s calling, institutional cultural values, relationships with students, and faculty contributions. Participants were encouraged to study the materials provided in the LMS and reflect together every Friday with facilitators and fellow participants to draw collective conclusions.

This activity serves as a means to better understand the participants and each other, while also preparing for Phase 2, where participants will attend in-person sessions at Sanata Dharma University for one week.
