English Letters Department Holds the 10th Literary Studies Conference in Collaboration with Ateneo de Manila University, Philippines<\/b><\/h3><\/h2>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

Wednesday (19\/10): <\/span><\/b>The English Letter Department of Universitas\nSanata Dharma has successfully held its annual activity, the Literary Studies\nConference (LSC) in collaboration with Ateneo de Manila University Philippines.\nThis year is the 10th sequence of LSC with the theme \u201cCritical Envisioning of\nLiterature, Catastrophe and its (Un)equal Interplay\u201d which is divided into 13\ntopics related to the big theme. This activity was held online for two days\nfrom 18 to 19 October 2022 via the Zoom platform. The theme was referring to\nsimilar discourses on how disasters, their causes, and their recovery are\nviewed; and why was it always the minority who have to bear more of the burden\nand consequences. In its commemoration of its 10th anniversary, LSC invited\nwriters, researchers, and also students to share their critical vision of literature\nthrough this program.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>

On the first day, the\nseminar was opened with a greeting from the Committee of 10th LSC, Elisabeth\nOseanita Pukan, S.S. M.A.,then it was continued by a welcome note from the\nUniversity President, Fr. Albertus Bagus Laksana, S.J., S.S, Ph.D., afterwards\nthe commencement of the conference was declared by Paulus Sarwoto, S.S., M.A.,\nPh.D, as the Steering Committee. The conference was divided into two plenary\nand several parallel sessions for the participants to present their papers and\nhave question and answer sessions. The first plenary session was filled by Alex\nTaek-Gwang Lee from Kyung Hae University with the topic Existential\nDistortion: Korean Literature and the National Question <\/i>and Ari J.\nAdipurwawidjana from Universitas Padjajaran with Ill Stars, Turning Points,\nand the Pleasure of Irony <\/i>as his topic. Then the conference was continued\nwith two parallel sessions where 29 papers were presented by each author.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/section>\n\t\t\t\t

On the next day, there\nwas the second plenary session presenting three speakers, such as Joff P. N.\nBradley from Teikyo University with the topic Ecologies for Learning and\nPractice; Emerging Ideas, Sightings, and Possibilities, <\/i>Emmanuel M. Luna\nfrom University of the Philippines with Nature and Human Dissonance: The Social\nDimension of Disasters<\/i> as his topic, and Elisa Dwi Wardani from Universitas\nSanata Dharma with the topic Communication and Confinement in Pandemic\nFictions<\/i>. After that, there were the third and fourth parallel sessions\nwhere 24 papers were presented by their authors. The conference then was closed\nby Novita Dewi as the Steering Committee Member.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/section>\n\t\t\t\t

This conference went\nsmoothly and was enjoyable for both the participants and the\ncommittee. There is a great deal of enthusiasm surrounding the LSC.\nAccording to Mala Hernawati, a returning presenter, the conference should\ncontinue to explore fascinating and relevant topics that bridge literary works\nwith our socio-historical realities. It is hoped that LSC will continue to\nprovide academics, researchers, and authors with the opportunity to exchange\nideas and stay abreast of the most recent research in literary and other\nhumanities studies. <\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>
